Additional state trooper presence this weekend

First Warden Ken Lacoste has announced that, per the town’s request, four state troopers will be on island this weekend to assist with police matters but more specifically to respond to social gatherings larger than what the state now allows. This is part of the Crush Covid initiative.
Rhode Island celebrates Victory Day Weekend this weekend, which is a three-day holiday.
Last week, Gov. Gina Raimondo reduced the allowable number at a social gathering to no more than 15, reducing it down from 25.
Lacoste said there is also a new hotline that people can call that is specifically dedicated to report large social gathering infractions. That number is (401) 764-5554. Lacoste stressed that is the only reason to call that number. The troopers will then respond to the call.
The information came out of a weekly conference call that the governor’s office has with local leaders this morning, Wednesday, Aug. 5. Interim Town Manager Jim Kern was also on the call.
