“The Last Battle of the Atlantic – The Sinking of the U-853 off Block Island” is the title of the short film and talk to be given by Captain Bill Palmer at the Block Island Maritime Institute on August 3 at 7 p.m.Capt. Bill has been diving since the late 1960s and has been running dive boat charters since 1974. He is the owner-operator of the Thunderfish and the new Thunderfish Express. Palmer also operates Thunderfish Productions, which produces videos on east coast shipwrecks and maritime subjects. His videos have appeared on numerous New England-based cable channels and have won numerous awards, in particular the story of the submarines USS Bass and U-853. Palmer is a noted lecturer on marine disasters and a regular presenter and lecturer at the Beneath the Sea conference in Secaucus, NJ. He has also given presentations at the prestigious Boston Sea Rovers Dive Clinic in Boston.Palmer has written two books: “The Last Battle of the Atlantic” and “Night of Terror.”
