The annual Block Island Holiday Stroll is back this year in its traditional form after taking a year off for the Covid pandemic. Last year retailers made a pivot to a virtual format for holiday shopping but have been busy getting ready to once again welcome residents and visitors in person this year.So are some of the elves – planning for the annual raising of the Lobster Pot Tree on Saturday, Nov. 20. They’ve been busy gathering traps, buoys, and decorationsto build this multi-layered sculpture that will adorn the downtown well into the winter. While adults assemble the tree, Block Island school kids may be having what has also become an annual event – a good old-fashioned bake sale.
This year the Stroll resumes its traditional three days of shopping as stores all over the downtown open their doors and greet shoppers with beverages and cookies, holiday merchandise, and deep discounts on many items. Mary Lawless, owner of WaterColors on Dodge Street, says: “As a brick-and-mortar business on Block Island, the Stroll is a great opportunity to participate in holiday shopping. We hope to see our summer friends and many new faces for this fun and festive weekend.”The
