Block Island Lions Club Golf Tournament

On Monday, July 12, the Block Island Lions Club held its 35th annual golf tournament at the Richmond Country Club. Players from the island, as well as many mainland players, joined together for a great day of golf.All proceeds benefit the Scholarship Fund. Each year the Club awards one or two Block Island School graduating seniors a scholarship and will continue for three additional years if the student is in good academic standing. The students who are currently receiving scholarships are: Andre Miller, Julia Butcher, Fiona Crawford, Moira O’Neill, Charlotte Hall and Stephanie Rich.The winning team was led by Adam Sandel of Mechanical HVAC with a score of 10 under. Richmond Country Club donated a free round of golf for four. Team member Ray LaJoie had the men’s longest drive. Women’s longest drive was awarded to Tammy Tyler of Tyler Electrical. Andy Foehr won the 50/50 raffle. Other raffle winners were Pete Parlapiano, Mark Vaillancourt and Ray LaJoie.The golf committee would like to thank the following individuals and businesses for their support: Interstate Navigation provided complimentary round-trip boat tickets.
