One of the island’s favorite events, Blues on the Block – a family-friendly public concert featuring local blues bands — will next take place on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the Fred Benson Beach Pavilion at 5:30 p.m. The band Johnnie and the East Coast Rockers will entertain attendees until 7:00 p.m.The concert is sponsored by Sertex Broadband Solutions, the company working to build Rhode Island’s first municipally-owned high speed fiber network on Block Island.Blues on the Block is free and open to the public. Alcohol is not allowed on the beach. The first concert in the series took place on July 28. The final concert is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 25.
“Among the many things that were missed last year, Blues on the Block was one of the events people missed the most,” said Lars Trodson, executive director of the Block Island Chamber of Commerce, organizer of this year’s concerts. “It’s fun. Music is in the air. People are dancing and enjoying a relaxing island evening. We’re very pleased to partner with Sertex Broadband Solutions. Without them, Blues on the Block – and high speed internet – would not be happening. We’re grateful for their support.”
