The Spring Street Gallery lawn has been the venue for several community art classes recently. Photographer and pen and ink artist, Tom Kalb, was available to teach two “Drink and Draw” classes on Friday evenings.
Last week, many children arrived at the Spring Street Gallery to have their first ever art class. Ted Merritt and Eileen Miller, gallery members, gave them lessons on color and abstraction. Then the master of ceremonies, Anna Rose Mleczko helped get the kids to the gallery lawn where they sat under the trees and painted whatever they felt like. Some new artists figured out how to make waves with thick dabs. Other artists were inspired to make a night sky with stars. Some found a way to incorporate grasses and sticks in their paintings. Others decided that it’s wonderful when you swirl six colors in one spot all together. The kids were so serious about their work, there were times when you could hear a bucket of brushes drop. Some chaos ensued as they signed and matted their creations, just like real artists. New and old friends traded paintings and shared opinions. Their work, priced by themselves, was matted, signed and hung up on
