This past Tuesday, on February 8, the Block Island boys varsity basketball team gained another win. Starting at 12:30 p.m. the boys played a home game against Grove, winning with a score of 53 to 26. The team pulled into the lead in the first quarter then continued to stay ahead into the second half. At half time they led with 18 points with the score at 31 to 13. Carter Brown (1), junior point guard, finished with the most points, scoring 14 overall. Coming in close, sophomore and number six on the team, Justin Cullen, scored 10 points.
Number 11 and senior, Hector Santana, had the crowd cheering during the second quarter with his smooth hook shot. “The season is going way betterthan I thought it would be. With the lack of people [on the team] we’ve been winning a lot more than I thought,” Santana said. “It’s just a blessing even for me to play my senior year.”
Similar to Santana, Brown was worried about the season at first. “The season started off slow. We didn’t have a lot of practice because of Covid outbreaks but now we have everything in check.”Players and spectators were pleased
