Eileen Miller and John Warfel at Spring Street Gallery

For the fourth consecutive summer, oil painter Eileen Miller and ceramic artist John Warfel will exhibit their newest work together at the Spring Street Gallery withan opening reception on Saturday, August 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Please visit us for some refreshments and conversation on the front lawn and check out the abstract art, raku pottery, and hand-built chairs on display until Aug. 27.Working with palette knives on canvases small and large, Miller likes to build up layers of paint and texture, often finding color combinations that show through the layers creating depth and a quality of translucence. “I love experimenting with color. Each hue has a different vibration and feeling; combining them in varying ways is always rewarding, like playing with a sunset or the colors of the sea.”This year Warfel focused exclusively on raku. “I worked mainly on rounded classical shapes thrown on the wheel but also made some hand-built platters. I experimented with stains, colored slips, carving and imprinting images of some of the vines that are growing around my studio. I also did some experimenting with an outdoor chair design and I will have some examples at our opening.”
