The project that cleaned up and landscaped the area that was once used as the town dump has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency.
“I am pleased to announce that the Block Island Landfill Project has received an award from the Environmental Protection Agency. In its Clean Water State Revolving Fund’s Performance and Innovation in the Creating Environmental Success (PISCES) Award program,” stated Town Manager Ed Roberge in an email to members of the Town Council and staff at Town Hall. “The program recognizes exceptional projects funded by the CWSRF at the national level. Each participating state program nominated one project that demonstrated one or more of the following criteria including water quality, public health, economic benefits, sustainability and innovation. Congratulations to the Block Island community for its continued support and the Town Council leadership to keep this project on task. You’ve achieved environmental sustainability while creating opportunity for the public to share this space that is recognized at the national level.”
