A fatal motorcycle accident took the life of Owen Terrell, 32, of 541 Center Road, Block Island, in the early morning hours of November 1.At approximately 1:53 a.m., the New Shoreham Police Department was called to the scene of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash near the intersection of West Side Road and Oar Way. The motorcycle operator was found unconscious with a severe head injury. He was transported to the Block Island Medical Center by rescue personnel and pronounced dead at 3:57 a.m.
At this time, it appears that no other vehicles were involved and there were no other passengers on the motorcycle, Police Chief Matthew Moynihan told The Block Island Times. Terrell was not wearing a helmet and it appears alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.“This young man’s death is a tragedy for our town and very sadly, it was likely preventable. Drinking and driving do not mix – whether you are in a car on the highway or on a motorcycle in a rural area,” said Chief Moynihan. If anyone has information, please contact the New Shoreham Police Department at (401) 466-3220.Terrell, originally from Washington D.C, and a graduate of the University of Virginia,
