Grace’s Cove Road home destroyed by fire

An early evening fire on Monday, June 15 destroyed a family home on Grace’s Cove Road near Swede Hill.
According to Block Island Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kirk Littlefield, the call came in to the dispatch center at one minute before 7 p.m. and “engines one and two were en route within a minute. Engine 1 arrived at the scene at” two minutes past 7 p.m.” First responders reported that the house was “fully involved,” said Littlefied, and the fire was extinguished at nine minutes before 8 p.m.
“Other structures were not in any imminent danger,” said Littlefield, adding that the tree canopy over the driveway made entering a little tight, and once again reminded residents to trim back their trees to make emergency vehicle entry easier.
There were no injuries. Littlefield said that more than 40 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene and their “help was greatly appreciated.”
“The guys did a great job. Their training has paid off,” said Littlefield. Members of the BIVFD have been training on Sundays for the past several months with experts from the Rhode Island Fire Academy. Littlefield also expressed the department’s gratitude to the Ladies Auxiliary which brought
