A coalition of wellness, civic, and government organizations have combined their efforts to bring potentially life-saving rescue kits to Block Island.
The office of U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island Aaron L. Weisman, the Hope Recovery Centers of Rhode Island, Interstate Navigation, and the South County Regional Prevention Coalition have provided the Block Island Ferry and the Block Island Chamber of Commerce with Opioid Rescue Kits – they’re called NaloxBoxes – for use in emergency situations. The ferries will have six such kits and the Chamber office will have one.
Dave Neill is the Crime Prevention and Community Outreach Coordinator for the U.S. Attorney’s office, which works with middle and high schools throughout the state on substance abuse programs.
“Attorney Weisman recognizes the importance of eliminating the negative stereotype of opioid use and dependency, and has dedicated resources to middle and high schools to accomplish that.” Neill said that he had delivered 50 kits to fishing vessels in Galilee this past summer.
