The Harbors Department has deployed one of its boats to retrieve solid waste material from boaters spending time on the Great Salt Pond. Town Manager Ed Roberge disclosed that news at the June 28 Harbor Management Plan meeting.
“I’m pleased that the Harbormaster has implemented a boat for collecting trash,” said Roberge, noting the town’s effort to collect solid waste material. “Call VHF channel 72 to have your trash collected. The boat is an important component to improving solid waste management on The Great Salt Pond.”
After the meeting, New Shoreham Harbormaster Steve Land told The Times that his department “repurposed a boat for the strict purpose of collecting trash on the pond.” Land said the boat is a 20-foot Ocean Scout.
