Block Island visitors and residents should be prepared for incoming Hurricane Henri. The track of the storm is moving closer to the island, and may make a direct hit, and the timing is sooner than was expected.
Block Island Power Company President Jeffery Wright warns that: “With no doubt the island’s power system will sustain damage and everyone should plan for multiple day outages. The timing coincides with the full moon Saturday night as well, so a damaging storm surge will be added to our list of concerns. High tides are at roughly 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.”
“I am fairly confident that the submarine cable will lose its feed, which means we will most likely be running on back-up generators,” said Wright.
The storm is now expected to hit Saturday night and continue until Monday morning.
