Horseshoe Crab Season

(VIDEO) Horseshoe crabs have begun to emerge around the Great Salt Pond recently, with their appearance serving as a reminder to their annual breeding event. Horseshoe crabs are one of Block Island’s living fossils, and their appearance has not changed in 300 million years. Reporter Rosemary Connelli observed the horseshoe crabs at Andy’s Way, where the horseshoe crabs have been known to breed and congregate.The Block Island Times will be a featuring a story in this week’s paper from the Block Island Conservancy on horseshoe crabs.
