Hurricanes play strong to finish the regular season

The Hurricanes Varsity Volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a victory over Westerly.Seniors Chloe Weber, Samantha Hester, Amira Wilson, and Rory Crawford played their last home volleyball game for Block Island School, and put on quite a show for the loud crowd.Despite a rough boat ride, the Westerly squad came out strong, taking the first game 25-20. But the Hurricanes battled back in the second game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead behind strong serving by Weber, including an ace. Westerly called timeout with the ‘Canes up 8-3 followingthe second ace by Chloe Weber.The Hurricanes continued their strong service game, with Campbell Caviello and Wilson serving up aces of their own while Block Island built a 17-11 lead. At this point, Cally Weber was back up in the rotation, and held the serve until the Hurricanes had doubled up the Bulldogsat 22-11 behind thundering spikes from Wilson and Chloe Weber. Westerly finally took the serve back, but a spike from Chloe Weber broke the Bulldogs’ serve and their spirits.
