The Hurricanes High School Softball team traveled up to Shea-Tolman in Pawtucket for a Rhode Island Interscholastic League playoff game last week, their first since 2018.Facing a school with a combined enrollment of 1800 students proved overpowering but the Hurricanes never gave up and had many solid hits at bat in the later innings, they just were hit directly at Shea-Tolman players resulting in long outs and some great fielding plays.On the dusty, windswept tundra of a field composed of very fine powdery sand, the Hurricanes, behind pitcher Rory Crawford, gave it their best. The Hurricanes proudly represented the school and island with their total of 10 players versus Shea-Tolman’s 21, but the game got away and the team lost 15-0, ending the season.The girls’ refreshingly positive attitude was noted by the umpires who visited the dugout during the game repeatedly, praising the team. “You girls have the best attitude of any team I’ve umpired this year,” said the first base ump, a sure reflection on their Coach Russell Littlefield and the approach he takes with the team.Shea-Tolman’s starting battery, who play competitively year-round, threw blistering strikes the entire game while opting for pinch runners to rest between
