Island resident arrested for harassment

Police Chief: This will not be tolerated

An island resident has been arrested on a misdemeanor charge for what New Shoreham Police Chief Vin Carlone termed as an incident of “harassment” of a long-term, multi-generational island homeowner who was driving in a car with out-of-state plates.
Expressing frustration over the matter, Carlone said he is now taking the time to place his police officers in unmarked vehicles to patrol the town to be on the lookout for similar behavior.
“This is not going to be tolerated,” said Carlone, who wanted those currently on the island to be aware that anyone engaging in this type of behavior would be arrested and charged.
“We are all in this together,” said Carlone, who reiterated a message he had sent to the community earlier this week “to be kind to one another, to be patient, and to help anyone who may be in need.”
