Leslie Hartnett work at Spring Street Gallery

Artist Leslie Hartnett will be showing her new series of fruits and vegetables at the Spring Street Gallery starting on Aug. 8, 2020 and running through Aug. 20. The Gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The artist’s reception will be on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Leslie and her husband Sean live on Block Island in their home on Southwest Point seven months of the year and they spend the winter in Italy. Sean is a marble sculptor and has worked for 50 years near the famous quarries of Pietrasanta and Carrara. Leslie has a studio attached to their house where she creates terra cotta Majolica reliefs of fruits and vegetables. Both Sean and Leslie’s work can be seen in homes all over the island.
The pandemic and subsequent lockdown found them at their home in Pietrasanta. Leslie was able to paint every day and then prepared the subjects of her paintings for their dinner. Hence the idea for a recipe book called “Eat the Paintings.” The book will be sold at the Gallery during the show. The book has photos of all the paintings accompanied by the recipes
