The Mary D. Fund Benefit Regatta, a traditional sailing event to benefit the Mary D. Fund, was held each year in the 1990s until 2004. After a decade-long hiatus, the regatta was revived a few years ago by Block Island Community Sailing. The race is a 12-mile around-the-buoys race in Block Island Sound starting at 1 p.m. on July 16 and is open to all yachts with a Performance Handicap Rating Fleet Rating (PHRF). Over the years, this event has raised thousands of dollars for the Mary D. Fund. The Mary D. Regatta is open to the Block Island offshore yacht-racing fleet and visiting yachts from all over the region whose clubs were notified by email by the race management team. Skippers can register their yachts on-line at the event website: www.regattanetwork.com/event/24925.Special thanks to the New Harbor Boat Basin, which, as the location sponsor, is providing the regatta headquarters. If you would like to participate on a crew on one of the racing yachts, contact Block Island Community Sailing at www.sailbi.org
