Nature Van’s first year a success

Anyone who lives and works on Block Island in the summer is sure to be asked a lot of crazy questions. For Cici Conroy, answering those questions is all part of a day’s work.
Conroy mans the Nature Van, a new endeavor by the Block Island Conservancy and The Nature Conservancy.The Nature Van operates from Tuesdays through Saturdays and can be found at a different trail head each day of the week. On Tuesdays it’s at Rodman’s Hollow, Wednesdays at Clay Head, Thursdays at the Solviken, Fridays at Nathan Mott Park, and Saturdays at Sachem Pond. The idea is to provide a resource for visitors where they may learn more about an area, pick up a trail map, or see some curious finds like horse shoe crab shells. They can also sign up for email notifications of BIC and TNC events.The Block Island Times caught up with Conroy on a cloudy Tuesday at Rodman’s Hollow. There were many visitors, mainly men, perhaps there for a hike while their female companions were out shopping – it was that kind of a day, after all.
