This past April, Coast opened on 448 Ocean Avenue. Owned by Cariona Davis, Coast is a new eco-friendly, woman-owned and locally supportive shop.Coast offers locally fresh-cut flowers, mostly from Davis’s backyard on Spring Street, along with flowers from Ayla Shade, a local florist and owner of Harvest Moon Florals, that are also Spring Street grown. The rest of the selection of flowers and plants is either from Little State Flower in Portsmouth, R.I. or The Floral Reserve in Providence. This weekend’s Spring Street harvested flower and plant selections include Chinese roses, irises, gaura, African marigolds, calendula, mammoth dill, sweet peas, Chinese forget-menots, Shirley poppies, cosmos “purity,” and blue cornflowers.Davis accepts requests for custom bouquets and table arrangements. Starting this week through September 9, summer flower subscriptions are also available.Davis has spent 20 summers on Block Island, along with several winters. Last year Davis and her husband Omorow bought DVL Landscaping, which includes landscape, construction, and fine gardening services.“My inspiration for the shop was my husband’s country, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
