Ocean State Job Lot donates 14 electric bikes to New Shoreham Police Deptartment

Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL), the region’s premier privately-held discount retail chain with 146 stores throughout the Northeast, recently donated 14 electric bicycles valued at $1,300 each to the New Shoreham Police Department to assist in the Community Service Officer (CSO) policing internship program during Block Island’s heavily-trafficked summer season. OSJL will provide more than 20 additional electric bikes to the Narragansett Police Department and Jamestown Police Department in the coming weeks.
In 2021, the New Shoreham Police Department launched the CSO policing internship program for college students enrolled in criminal justice programs. Eight applicants were accepted into the 14-week program and are spending the summer on Block Island supporting the New Shoreham Police Department. The program is designed to provide an immersive policing experience for the CSOs while providing needed support for the New Shoreham Police Department during the busy summer season.“We appreciate Ocean State Job Lot’s support for our community policing program.
