Oil paintings by Claire Marschak at Spring Street Gallery

Claire Marschak will exhibit oil paintings in a show titled “Cloudscapes” at the Spring Street Gallery starting Saturday, Aug. 1 through Aug. 14. The public is invited to a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. the day of the opening.
The show features 24 paintings on paper, linen, and canvas. For inspiration to produce this work, Marschak chose the basic elements of sky and sea, with clouds being the focal point. By interpreting the same subject repeatedly, it enabled her to explore color, composition and mood.
Claire wanted to create an uplifting experience for the viewer. By using soft and bright colors on her palette with hues of soothing blue, tranquil aqua, and glowing pink and orange, the images have a dreamy mood. Using titles such as, “Hope Rising, Yearning, and Sublime,” also evoke comforting sentiments.
“This intention gave me a sense of purpose while painting alone in my studio. It was my calm during chaos. I wanted to offer light and optimism during a time of darkness and uncertainty. I believe art can have a restorative effect and I wish to share that vision through my art.”
