A private plane ran off the runway at the Block Island Airport on Monday night, July 26, crashing through the fence, across Center Road, and into the guardrail.New Shoreham Police Chief Matt Moynihan confirmed it was an aborted takeoff, with the pilot running out of runway and ending up across the street.
“Thankfully, no one was injured,” Moynihan said. The chief indicated that the only passengers were the pilot and his wife, and there were no indications of any wrongdoing on their part.Airport manager Andy Transue wasn’t fazed by the accident. “It’s the fourth plane through the fence in the last ten years,” he told colleagues at the Police Advisory Commission.
