If you call having to pick up two dumpsters worth of trash from the shores of the Great Salt Pond a success, then The Nature Conservancy’s and the Block Island Conservancy’s beach clean-up on Monday, August 15 was just that – a success.One of the dumpsters was at the Coast Guard Station and the other at the Block Island Club. Block Island Recycling Management made sure to have them empty and ready to go for the clean-up.Groups were dispatched to different areas of the pond to collect the flotsam and jetsam that collects every year along the shores of the pond. Some went to the Coast Guard Channel, some did the inner ponds, some did the area between the Block Island Club and Beane Point, and others covered wherever they could.Kids with the Block Island Fishing Academy went out to “the cut” at the Coast Guard Station while kids from Camp Mohegan, run by the Block Island Recreation Department, hit up Bonnell Beach and went down the path at Ball O’Brien Park to cover the shore in that area. The Block Island Club covered the shore between Andy’s Way and Beane Point.There were at least 17 teams participating
