The word, “Reflections” can be defined as the return of light from a surface or the consideration of subject matter. In Betsey MacDonald’s current oil paintings, which will be on view at The Spring Street Gallery from August 7 to 19, “Reflections” means both. Betsey loves and paints animals. In this current body of work, Betsey has again explored some of the animals who share our earth and also how their images are transformed by the motion of water. Her animals are carefully rendered in a realistic but painterly way and below them the transitory qualityof water and light results in fascinating abstractions of her beloved subjects.Betsey was born in New Bedford, MA and lives in Rhode Island with her husband, dogs and horses. She has a BFA from the University of Massachusetts and an MA with emphasis on painting from Rhode Island College. She also completed a premed program at UMass and taught high school chemistry, biology, and art for 35 years. She has had numerous solo exhibitions and her work hangs in more than 500 homes. She has won many awards for her paintings and often takes part in group shows. Betsey is a juried member
