Alan Segan married Juliann Paolicchi on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021 at the Block Island Beach House, culminating a nearly 50-year-long love affair with the island.The ceremony was jointly performed by Tony Pappas, formerly of the Harbor Church, and cantor Elliot Taubman. Segan has been coming to the island for 47 years. Seeking a summer refuge in 1974, he brought his new baby to the Narragansett Inn, where a teenage Pam Gasner (then Littlefield) later became the child’s babysitter. That child became this writer, who had a stint at The Block Island Times in the early ‘90s. I’ve been bringing my own daughter to the island every year as well, continuing the tradition.
When Segan met Paolicchi, he knew that to truly understand him, he had to bring her to the island.
“The natural beauty was breathtaking from the blueness of the Atlantic, striking cliffs, majestic dunes, and crystalline beaches. And, the most important part was how the people of the island loved and respected their natural beauty and wished for everyone to do the same,” Paolicchi said.In terms of islanders, the Taubmans and Gasners attended, with John Gasner looking particularly dashing in white
