Senator Reed sneaks in an island visit

It was all work and little play for United States Senator Jack Reed and accompanying staff as they got a whirlwind tour of Block Island facilities as well as an outline of the town’s future needs Wednesday. Reed was guided by First Warden Andre Boudreau, Second Warden Sven RIsom, and Town Manager Maryanne Crawford, with Shirlyne Gobern providing history and Police Chief Matthew Moynihan keeping the busy, but purposely quiet timetable on schedule. Reed visited the Sewer Plant, Medical Center, School, Water Treatment Plant and several other key town assets.
Reed, a graduate of West Point and Harvard Law School, is in his fifth term in the Senate where he serves as Chairman of the Armed Services Committee and holds a critical post with the committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs where he has been instrumental in assisting Rhode Island with resources during the Covid pandemic. The Three Sisters provided sandwich wraps, which Reed proclaimed to be “simply outstanding,” for him and his staff, before they headed back to the mainland.
