On Friday, Oct. 22, the Block Island Hurricanes co-ed varsity soccer team made their first and last debut of the 2021 season pulling out a 4 – 3 win over Oxford in what some would say was an “undefeated” season.
The ‘Canes co-ed team started out a little sluggish. Nerves? Or could it have been the hour-and-a-half bus ride, or the lack of games? However, their pride, practicing and coaching wouldn’t let them down.Oxford came out of the gates quickly, scoring three goals to Block Island’s one. Scored by Carter Brown, who, mostly known for his basketball skills, is quite talented on the pitch.After Coach Marlin Cameron’s quick halftime pep talk, it seemed like a second half rally was in the making. Fans cheered as Block Island had shots from near and far just brush by the goal. Midway through the second half the defense tightened up by the lanky defensemanBlaize Hatfield and his two wing backs, Kristel Solorzano Cruz and Jefry Cruz Ramirez.
