Softball season winding down

The Block Island Hurricanes middle school softball team took the field on Friday, June 11 in an away game against the squad from Curtis Corner Middle School. After a shaky first inning, the Hurricanes kept it close the rest of the way, playing tough defense behind strong pitching from Kiley and Cora Ryan.In only their third game of this unique Covid-era season, the Lady Hurricanes cheered each other on and lifted each others’ spirits when the going got tough. Pitcher Cora Ryan came on strong to close out the game, pitching multiple scoreless innings, but it wasn’t enough for the ‘Canes to overcome the hole they had gotten themselves into at the beginning of the game.
Curtis Corner’s defense held together well, fending off an exciting comeback bid by the Hurricanes in the sixth inning. Block Island loaded the bases but was only able to get Ellie Vest home, as Curtis Corner’s defense carried the day.The Hurricanes’ season winds down with the final game scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 18 at Heinz Field.
