Stop & Shop announced this week that those in Rhode Island using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits now have the option to pay with an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card when placing online orders for Stop & Shop Pickup and Delivery. SNAP benefits had to be used in person, at the store, prior to this announcement.
“Offering EBT payment online is an integral part of Stop & Shop’s commitment to serving our communities,” said Gordon Reid, President of Stop & Shop. “We’re proud to make accessibility to healthy food easier and more convenient, especially for those impacted by the pandemic.”Customers can add their EBT card to their account on StopandShop.com and shop using their federal SNAP benefits, which are administered by the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS). While browsing online aisles, SNAP customers can sort products to show eligible items, and at checkout, customers can select the amount to charge to their EBT card.
“Our mission at DHS is that all Rhode Islanders have the opportunity to thrive at home, work and in the community, but you can’t flourish without the life essentials – such as food, housing and employment,” added interim DHS Director Celia
