The Studio opens on High Street

One is challenged when trying to wrap their hands around the new art/photography store located midway on High Street where the “old” Block Island Health and General Store used to sit on the edge of town.But it’s eclectic: “A person or physical surroundings deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources” just might work as the facility will appeal to many in vastly different ways, and will certainly pique the creative side of one’s brain. It’s a place that has to be absorbed to be appreciated, just like art.
The store is the brainchild of Eli Holmes, who has created a non-intimidating, relaxed “hang-out” feel to the place as she slowly builds it out and fills the large rooms. The longer one spends poking into various corners and boxes, a je ne sais quois vibe inevitably seems to envelope one.For professional or aspiring photographers, there are supplies that one cannot find elsewhere on the island. In fact, traditional photographers using analogue equipment and accustomed to buying their film from temperature-controlled coolers will be right at home settling in and talking shop.
