Town hires lobbying firm to push agenda

The Town of New Shoreham has retained the Mayforth Group to provide lobbying services for Block Island with the state and federal government.Council Member Mark Emmanuelle said it was “one of those issues we’ve talked about for a long time,” stating that the town wanted to be able to get as much state and federal aid as possible. While Block Islanders have often lamented that the state doesn’t care about them, the recent distribution of aid from the federal infrastructure bill upset the members of the Town Council, and seemingly encouraged the town to hire a lobbyist.
“I would not normally vote for this,” Council Member Martha Ball said.“But the gap between what other towns are getting and what we are getting is growing.”
The town sent out a request for qualifications, and received three applicants. After meeting with the firms, the council reached consensus on hiring the Mayforth Group.In its proposal to the Town Council, the Mayforth Group says its “core mission” is to “provide the best service possible” to “ensure the client’s message is heard.”The proposal goes on to say the strategy is to “put the client in touch with the right people, with the right
