Two elementary school siblings have tested positive for Covid-19, prompting a closure of The Block Island School until the end of the month, according to Supt. Mike Convery. Starting Tuesday, all students will start distance learning, Convery said.
The two students were in school on Thursday and Friday, said Convery and therefore the school would be “deep cleaned” in the coming days.
Convery said that School Principal Kristine Monje will be handing out Chrome books for those students who left them at the school in order to attend classes remotely. Dr. Tom Warcup of the Medical Center has been in touch with the Rhode Island Dept. Of Health to begin the process of contact tracing.
Even though the high school students are largely separated from the elementary school, “there is some shared space” and that is why the entire school is closed, Convery said.
