The following message was forwarded to The Block Island Times from the Block Island Club on their reopening plan:
Dear BIC Members and Friends,
In the past two days we have been in close contact with the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Block Island Medical Center. The aforementioned authorities have identified five (5) staff members and twelve (12) children who may have had close contact with a staff member who tested positive for COVID-19. Those identified staff members and children have been contacted regarding quarantine procedures. The positive staff member’s last day of work was Thursday, July 30th and that staff member left the island on Monday, August 3rd. Although we were not mandated to close, the safety of our membership and staff is paramount, and the decision to suspend activities was the Club’s.
Throughout the summer, the Block Island Club has strived to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our community with a number of measures, including:
Health Screening upon arrival
Hand sanitizer made available to members
Hand sanitizer distributed before classes begin
Sanitation of equipment (tennis rackets, boats, arts & crafts supplies, etc.)
Daily, professional cleaning of bathrooms, indoor space and
