After being cited, Mahogany Shoals back in good graces

Mahogany Shoals, after being cited for non-compliance by the state Department of Business Regulations, was re-instated on Monday, Aug. 17 because the establishment “has satisfied the terms and conditions of” the original non-compliance order, which was posted by DBR on Aug. 14.
Sands Payne, owner of Mahogany Shoals, voiced frustration over the state’s inspection program.
“Since this whole thing began, it has been a constant battle to come into compliance. Our staff worked tirelessly to change procedures with the ever-changing guidelines, nasty rumors, bad press and being run-over with people because some business did not re-open,” Payne messaged The Block Island Times. “We went so far as to close the property to the public, close the bar early to disperse the people and raise the drinking age. Once we had the correct amount of people down here everything fell into place.”
Alleged violations included overcrowding and incomplete contact information collections. The Aug. 14 citation ordered that the overcrowding must be addressed and to ensure that contact information is taken.
The Aug. 17 order that lifted the non-compliance citation stated, “Respondent is compliant with applicable Executive Orders and Department of Health Regulations.”
