Champlin Foundation announces latest grants

The Champlin Foundation announced its latest round of grant funding on December 6 with a total of $13.20 million in capital funding for 126 non-profit organizations, mainly in Rhode Island. (One grant went to Mystic, Conn.)Among those grants were two for Block Island organizations. The Block Island Medical Center is receiving $400,000 towards its expansion project, and the Southeast Lighthouse Foundation will receive $110,450 for window renovation.The foundation awards two rounds of grants each year. In June it announced $5.8 million in grants awarded to 77 organizations, although none were on Block Island.“The Block Island Health Services Board is so grateful to The Champlin Foundation for investing in the longterm viability of health care for everyone in our community, year-round residents and visitors alike,” Board Chair Susan Stover told The Times. “This incredible gift illustrates Champlin’s commitment to Block Island by supporting the Medical Center’s critical role to provide primary and urgent care, as well as ancillary care such as physical therapy, behavioral health, dentistry, and overall wellness care.”
So far, the BIHS Capital Campaign has $6.4 million in pledges and hopes to start its renovation and expansion project in the spring of 2022. During construction, a temporary
