Earth and Arbor Day Fair a great success

By all accounts, Block Island’s first Earth and Arbor Day Fair held last Thursday, April 21, was a resounding success. When The Block Island Times spoke with organizer Mimi Leveille a couple weeks before the fair, she was still gathering participants, and unsure of just who would be doing what. It turns out she needn’t have worried. The fair had a robust turnout of both people participating and partaking. They came with signs, displays, plants, food and artwork.
Some of the people there and displaying exhibits, but not pictured here were representing the Sea Level Rise Committee and the Atlantic Shark Institute. Also not pictured are Sue Black and Aymar Ccopacatty on behalf of Black’s fiber arts network, who together displayed weavings made from reclaimed materials, including plastic bags. Sven Risom, from North Light Fibers also brought fiber arts, introducing people to the art of needlefelting with do-it-yourself projects for visitors to complete.Since it was school vacation week in much of New England, there were lots of fair goers and kids of all ages seemed to be having a great time.
