Meet Block Island’s newest police officer

On Wednesday, April 29, at the Town Council’s telecommunication meeting, New Shoreham Police Chief Vin Carlone announced the hiring of police officer Sarah Goodwin, a native of Rhode Island.
“We have hired a lifelong Rhode Island resident. She’s 26 years old, and she’s in the Army National Guard. She’s very highly regarded in the academy, and I actually had the opportunity to go and watch her physical fitness test. She is very tough and smart… three times state tennis champion in her high school, and as I said, a very highly regarded, good candidate,” said Carlone.
The Block Island Times spoke with Goodwin this week to learn more about her.
Q: Congratulations on your recent hiring as a police officer to Block Island! Can you tell me about yourself, your background and where you are from?
A: I am from Smithfield, Rhode Island. I am 26 years old, and currently in the Army National Guard. I am also getting my Bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security.
