Nicholas Ball Park: All shiny and new

Cordoned off with some old-fashioned thick marine rope, adorned with bike racks designed by a world class artist, a chess or checkers board, a water-bottle filling station, and a nice, new pathway — upgrades to the Nicholas Ball Park are complete, according to Old Harbor Task Force Chair Margie Comings.
The project got a shot in the arm by a grant from the CommerceRI Main Street grant program, and was underway when the lockdown forced a shut down of the work.
“We finished in the past few weeks,” said Comings. “We put in a walkway, which is absolutely lovely. We’ve put in new plantings. We put in an educational sign to give you some background, which was designed by Connelli Designs. And we have bike racks that look like waves that were designed by Aymar Ccopacatty.” (Connelli Designs owner Rosemary Connelli is a reporter for The Block Island Times.) 
Comings said that the Task Force was going to have a traditional opening, but due to the obvious reasons that was scrapped. “Instead of a dedication ceremony we’re asking people to come by and walk through the park,” said Comings.
