Observing nature from our own backyards

It’s spring, and a wide variety of birds have arrived to make their annual visit to Block Island. With so many of us sheltering-in-place and spending more time in our backyards than we normally would, The Block Island Times posed a question on social media: What plants and animals have you observed at your residence?
Here are some of the answers we received, along with photos:
“Baltimore oriole, orchard oriole, Rose breasted Grosbeak, Brown Thrasher and Sand Hill crane.” — Heather Hatfield
“Loon and rose breasted grosbeak.” — Heidi Tallmadge
“An eastern towhee.” — Champlin Starr
“Summer Tanager, immature male.” — Kristina Goll Schultz
“We have Ospreys that return every year.” — Maureen Lawton
“Scarlet Tanger.” — Brian Turner
“Sandhill crane.” — Junior Pineda
“Reeves pheasant. One of the escapees from the animal farm.”— Viktorija Butlevska
