Playground at Ball O’Brien Park is closed

Recreation Department Director Dave Sniffen stated this morning that the playground at Ball-O’Brien Park is now closed.
“Out of an abundance of caution, and following the lead of many other communities in Rhode Island, The Recreation Department has decide to close the structures, including the Pavilion, at Ball O’Brien Park. This will include all equipment on the playground. The rest of the park will remain open, but social distancing practices must be followed,” said Sniffen.
The skate parks and the basketball and tennis are open, but Sniffen stressed, however, “that activities that use shared equipment and areas, like basketball and tennis, still pose a risk of transmission of the virus between participants, so this activity should be avoided.” He stated that if the areas are used, single-person use is strongly recommended. No one on Block Island can meet in groups larger than five at a time according to the town’s emergency ordinance.
Sniffen said, “Please, everyone, be safe and smart and protect our community.”
