Reburying wind farm cables to begin

Due to technical difficulties, the Town Council had to cancel its Sept. 16 meeting and reschedule. The Zoom access number for dialing in and listening to the meeting was not working. The meeting was rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
“Not a legal meeting if no one can get in,” said First Warden Ken Lacoste. 
Lacoste did provide a Warden’s Report, reminding those who were able to watch the meeting that the undersea transmission cable reburial project will commence at Fred Benson Town Beach. The two sections of transmission cables that need to be reburied are located about 40 feet offshore.
National Grid and Orsted, which owns and operates the Block Island Wind Farm, own the cables. Orsted has said that the company will pay for reburying its section of the cable, while National Grid has said the cost will be shared by its ratepayers.
“There is a project starting at the town beach, and a reminder that the north lot and most of the south lot will be used for staging for that project for the repositioning of the undersea cables,” said Lacoste. “Those areas in the town beach parking lot will be off
