Financial Town MeetingThe FTM on May 2 at 7 p.m. will not be streamed for the public, per correspondence sent from the Board of Canvassers to the Town Council. The letter indicated that the board felt that providing an option for people to watch at home could “deter people from attending in person.” The board said the meeting is “supposed to be a meeting in-person with community participation.” The meeting will be held at the Block Island School.
School RenovationsOne item before the voters at the Financial Town Meeting on May 2 is a request to borrow $10.4 million for renovations at the Block Island School. Council Member Martha Ball asked for a clear explanation of the project at the Town Council meeting on April 20, saying it may be “the only opportunity to explain the $10 million,” which is a “really big number.”
