Deer Task ForceThe Deer Task Force met on February 15 and discussed the need for a community forum on deer. Chair Sue Hagedorn discussed the Town Council meeting of February 7, and mentioned that at that meeting “everyone seemed to agree” with the idea of a community forum. Member Maryann Seebeck said the group should reach out to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), to see if the agency could have someone attend. Former DTF member Terry Delaney joined the meeting via Zoom, and suggested that in addition to the DEM, the forum should include tick experts, wildlife experts, hunters, those against hunting, and recreation enthusiasts. He said the DTF needed “as much input as possible.”The DTF is hoping for the forum to occur toward the end of March, but the members agreed the general availability of experts from DEM would dictate the scheduling. The forum will be advertised and posted when dates have been set.
