Watch out for deer!

Please be advised that deer “rut” season is upon us. The rut is the time of year when deer mate, also known as mating season. The rut runs, generally, from mid-October until early December. According to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), the rut peaks in the first two weeks of November. During the rut, bucks will rub their antlers on saplings, leave their scent, thrash vegetation, and scrape the ground with their hooves, all leading up to antler sparring contests to establish dominance. Please take extra caution during this time as deer hormones are running high and inhibitions are running low. Please be especially careful driving at night, as deer will be out in large numbers, and will be on the road.
