Arnott dazzles with 13 Ks

Junior Varsity Baseball Team Captain James Arnott struck out 13 batters with an impressive pitching performance, but the Hurricanes’ lineup couldn’t muster any offense in a tough 6-0 defeat at Jamestown on May 4.
Arnott worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, but became a victim of some seeing-eye ground balls in the second frame, relinquishing five runs to a pesky and disciplined Jamestown lineup. After surrendering another run in the third frame, Arnott shut the door, allowing only two hits the rest of the way, while striking out six of the final nine batters he faced.
It was a tough luck loss for the captain, and his JV Hurricanes teammates, who were held hitless by three different Jamestown pitchers. The JV Hurricanes were stymied by the speed and craftiness of the Jamestown staff, and just couldn’t get anything going offensively.
Notable mentions in the game were: Assistant Captain and starting catcher Auggie Lambert, who played well behind the plate and smashed a ringing line drive to right field that was plucked from mid-air by the Jamestown right fielder; and shortstop Sam Stockman, who made a couple of nice defensive plays in the field, along with second baseman Fisher Johnston.
The JV Hurricanes’ next game is against The Wheeler School in Seekonk on Friday, May 11 at 3:15 p.m.
