Champlin Foundation awards grants to two island institutions

The Champlin Foundation has approved more than $120,000 for two island organizations: the Block Island Historical Society and the Island Free Library.
The Block Island Historical Society was awarded $43,241, and the Island Free Library was awarded $79,000. Both grants are for the replacement and repair of windows in each building.
“The Champlin Foundation has been a great friend to Block Island’s historic buildings. They have supported past phases of our museum restoration, funding the replacement of rotted sills, as well as the restoration of the north ell,” said Historical Society Director Pamela Gasner. “The ell wing room has allowed for more public access. The windows on the west elevation were funded by a previous Champlin Foundation grant and helped launch the West Gallery restoration project completed this year by McLaughlin Housewrights. Custom storm windows will be included in this newest phase of work as well as much-needed repair to the third floor windows and trim on the main building. The Board and members of the Society are very appreciative of their continued support.“
