Rhode Island State Police arrested the former treasurer of the Block Island Volunteer Fire Department after they say she embezzled almost $23,000.
Kate Campanale, 36, of Old Saybrook, Conn., was arrested Thursday, June 28.
Authorities say the investigation began in May 2018 when Block Island Police asked State Police to investigate a suspected embezzlement within the Block Island Volunteer Fire Department.
State Police found that Campanale allegedly stole $22,733.98 from the fire department’s bank accounts while serving as the volunteer treasurer for the department from 2015 to 2018.
Campanale was arraigned at Fourth Division District Court and was released on $10,000 personal recognizance pending further court action.
